formal and informal language

formal
I thought I’d write/ I am writing to complain about the state of the yard/condition of the playground. Over the last two weeks, I have noticed loads of rubbish/a great deal of litter.

informal
Dear James,
How are you?/I trust this letter finds you well. I’ve been dead busy/extremely busy since your last letter. We have to work really hard at school to get ready/in preparation for our PAT tests.

These examples show informal and formal language. For this activity we had read each text then we would change the colour of the answer that fits best each sentence of formal or informal. This activity teaches you how you use them and where you use them, so if you were to write an email to your boss or a colleague you would use formal language but if were to be your texting your friends you would normally use informal language.

Exponents

For maths today we have been learning about exponents. When doing this strategy if you see for example 4 squared you multiple the exponent by how ever the exponent you multiple by that number. So 42  you multiple it by the exponent twice then you 4x4 then you just work the answer from there 4x4=16

Division recap

This is the maths we did today

Analogue time

          Analogue time
Analogue time is a lot different to digital time. Analogue time is easy to learn but it does take time to understand how analogue time works but once you how it works it's only going to get easier.

It’s important that we learn analogue because sometimes at some other places they might only have analogue clocks. The differences between digital and analogue is that analogue time represents hands that go round the clock from hours 1-12 each hand does the same thing but a different way the short hand tells the hours, the long hand tells the minutes and the long red hand tells the seconds and some clocks are in Roman numerals.

We all know that analogue is not as good as digital because radio stations and broadcasting are changing from analogue to digital transmission so they can squeeze in more because digital can fit in more information per second than analogue. Most of the population has move on to digital because it is higher quality than analogue.

Scale drawings

Lat week it was maths week. For maths week we did scale drawings and what we would do is, we would find a image then we would print it, after we have printed it we would draw a grid around it. After we have finished our grid we would draw our image on to a 1:2 enlargement. It was a lot of fun doing this activity and the best part about this was drawing out the enlargement because it was challenging and the hardest part about was the Nike tick because of the curved part about it was hard to get right and I think i have improved from last year and maybe I might be able to next time during tech drawing.

Rugby League 2018

On Tuesday we had school rugby league. Our first game was 10:00 against Sylvia park it was a close game and in the end we manged to beat them 4-2. There were only 3 teams so we versed Pt England and Sylvia park twice because their were no other teams to verse. Our second game was against Pt England it was a nerve racking game because they had a lot of players that were bigger than us but it was a good game but we lost 2-7. In the second round we manged to beat Sylvia park by more points than before and the points were 7-3. Our last game was against Pt England, I think it was our best game because there was a lot of talking and team work and they were leading 4-1 in the first half. In the second half we manged to get some points but we lost and the final  score was 3-6.

Food Tech 2018

Today at food tech we were baking Quiches. The recipe was simple to do because it was already written on the board. My partner and I worked really well today because we were communicating with each other sorting the things that we should do. The things that I did was dicing the ham into small little cubes to put on the pastry. The second thing that we did was to place the cheese on top of the ham. The third thing that I done was pouring a half cup of milk into the silver measuring bowl and adding four eggs. After whisking the eggs and the milk we poured it into a measuring jug to pour it on the pastry. The cheese was added on the pastry so the texture and mixture can combine. When the pastry is finished getting poured with the milk and egg we had to top up some of the quiches. We put the oven on for 250 degrees and cook it for ten minutes. When the quiches were done baking in the oven the smell of the quiches were amazing. As we tasted the quiches we were proud of what we did because we put a lot of effort in this cooking. I really like cooking with Ms Tuipulotu and attending to her tech.

Two wonder day

As I wake up in the morning my teeth start to shiver
I hear the raindrops dripping on my ceiling
I get out of bed then start to freeze
Once I see my lunch I suddenly sneeze
When I walk out the door I feel nauseous and ill
As my sickness gets to me I become depressed.

As I wake up I feel energetic and fearless
I skip around the house helpful and bright.
As I get my lunch and gallop out the door I see birds chirping and sun behind the hill
As i'm walking school I see the bright blue sky and sunny sun.

This week we have been learning about poetry. We learnt how to make senses and words rhyme and we learnt how to use juxtaposition the definition for juxtaposition is to join two opposites together such as the clock watched over me and the TV stared right back at me. Tai and I made this poem based on how we get ready for school and we learnt a lot while making this poem we learnt how to use powerful words and to make words and scenes rhyme.

How to survive a cow attact

This work shows how what to do in a cow attack. When people are being chased by cows they would usually run but the best thing to do if you are in this situation is to stay still because it keep chasing until you stop and you will make it angry. If cows think you are up to something such as sneaking up on and If they are staring at you the best thing to do is to back away calmly and slowly it will start to lose interest and walk away.

Snowboarding vs skiing

Snowboarding vs skiing
If I had to choose between snowboarding and skiing I would choose
snowboarding because in skiing you have a better chance of breaking
something such as your ankles or your knees or injuring yourself.
For my second reason why I prefer snowboarding because there’s
more tricks and you can do a lot more in snowboarding. For my third
reason why I prefer snowboarding because there are different ways
of snowboarding such as changing your style in mid air getting big
air and speeding. Picking between these two sports was difficult
because I thought about the sports on what happens in these sports
then I made my decision on going with snowboarding.

Ten Beginner Snowboard Skills - First Day Riding

  • Skating
  • Walking uphill
  • One foot riding
  • Strap up
  • Heel slide
  • Roll over
  • Toe slide
  • Board straight
  • Turning

We watched the video and put the skills into order from easiest to hardest.

Skating is the thing you should learn. This skill is useful to getting to the run and getting from and to t
he chair lift. Walking up hill is a skill to help to walk up hill while one foot is strapped to the board.
You start by having your foot in front then you dig your board into the the
snow so you don’t slide down the hill. One foot riding is a necessary skill for getting off the chair lift.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=S0kX1JeecSQ

This list show the skills easiest to hardest. We watch the video so we could start writing our list on how to use ride a snowboard. The easiest skill to learn in skating this skill does not take long learn but it will still take some time to get it right. to. To start this trick you will need to have foot strapped to the board and use your rear foot to push your self forward and after you have this right you can move on to the next one.

Comparison

This week we have been learning about the winter Olympics and part of our Inquiry we created a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting our school values to the Winter Olympic values. The same thing about our values and the Olympic values is that they both have Respect and Excellence as a value. The difference between our motto and the Olympic motto is that the Olympic Motto is in another language and our motto is in English. We found out that the Olympic motto is in Latin (hendiatris Citius, Altius, Fortius). Panmure Bridge are to show good attitude towards students, teachers and visitors. People participating in the Olympic also have to show good attitude towards other competitors and to their coaches.

Reciprocal Reading

Today my reading group did reciprocal reading. We read the story then we predicted the story based on what we think could happen in the story. Then the leader asked the other person to see if they have a different prediction. Then we would clarify the words used to see if there are any words we are unsure of.

Comparisons

For Inquiry we have been searching about different mascots. For our task we had to make a Venn Digram comparing Soohorang (main mascot) to another mascot. My group (Alex, Lyric, me) decided to choose Bely Mishka. I learnt that Bely Mishka was one of the mascots who attended the 2014 Winter Olympic. I also learnt that both mascot attend one of the Winter Olympic games. This years Winter Olympic is taking part in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
